Die Framerate liegt im unterem Drittel von dem, was man in Borderlands gewöhnlich erlebt. The RTX 2080 Ti has no problem hitting ~60 FPS minimum, peaking at close to 50% higher than that. Borderlands is back, and that means one thing: Borderlands benchmarking is also back! We’ll talk more about this later. The former is implemented at the game level and open to all, while the latter is implemented by AMD at a driver level and only available on the RX 5700-series and some 500- and 400-series GPUs. Currently, that’d be DX11 for NVIDIA, and DX12 for AMD. Borderlands 3 laptop and PC benchmark analysis. Ultimately, if you own one of the bottom GPUs, you’d probably be best to avoid the Ultra preset from the get-go. The best setting to tweak in Borderlands 3 for better performance is draw distance. But of all those available to the avid options explorer, the best setting to tweak in Borderlands 3 for better performance is draw distance. Marking the end to a seven year wait for the most avid fans of the series, Borderlands 3 is bursting at the seams with guns and off-kilter comedy that leans towards unfunny more often than not. The 1660 Ti, for example, hits 60 FPS without much issue, yet its minimum can hit 39 FPS. Intense gunfights – the likes of which there will be many in Borderlands 3 – have an adverse effect on fps beyond even what even the in-game benchmark run is capable of portraying. Within the Advanced Settings tab of Borderlands 3 you’ll also find an option for FidelityFX sharpening – some of the latest functionality out of the red team’s skunk works. Borderlands 3. At its core, Borderlands 3 is still about ganging up with a few friends, extinguishing a few thousand lives, ... and you'll need at least a GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1070, or Vega 56 to break 60. We’ve loaded the test rig with a GTX 1660 Ti and Ryzen 9 3900X and put a handful of the most demanding settings to the test to see which ones had the most impact on framerates, and which were the least detrimental to visual fidelity. 1440p at medium is also close to the 60fps mark with the GTX 1660 Ti, and within reach of the GTX 1060. While DX12 is currently b0rked, there’s been hefty investment in getting the red team’s graphics cards up to speed in Borderlands 3. To stay up to date with the latest PC gaming guides, news, and reviews, follow PCGamesN on Twitter and Steam News Hub. We should stress that these results represent a “perfect” run. The fact that the RX 590 places in this graph tells just part of the story, because the reality is, DX12 on that particular GPU was an absolute chore to test due to the GPU driver crashing about 75% of the time. If ultrawide resolution is rough on these GPUs, then the final boss should be fun: At Ultra detail, not even the TITAN RTX can push Borderlands 3 to 60 FPS at 4K. With performance edging on an admirable 60fps, it may be worth adjusting settings at a granular level to avoid screen tearing or the need to enable v-sync. The red team has been touting this feature as ostensibly free-of-charge, meaning it will have no discernible impact on performance. The six-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 3600 also trails by only a few frames. It’s as if initial optimizations targeted Vega and Navi. With ad revenue at an all-time low for written websites, we're relying more than ever on reader support to help us continue putting so much effort into this type of content. While the GTX 1660 Ti is acceptable fare and gets awfully close to 60fps on average during the game’s prescribed benchmark run, it falls short in the all-important minimum fps metric. This graph might be our best look at AMD vs. NVIDIA. This is actually a GPU-manufacturer agnostic implementation – as part of the GPUOpen program – and even Nvidia’s silicon is welcome. But beneath all that there’s some cracking gunplay and combat to experience within Gearbox’s latest rootin’ tootin’ lootin’ shootin’ tale, helped along by the Unreal 4 engine and a handful of AMD optimisations. With Borderlands 3 having touted premium PC support since its announcement, we’re left a little deflated after taking a look at the end result. What are you looking for? With mainstream graphics cards such as the GTX 1060 or RX 590 it is recommended to drop the overall quality down to medium – discernible from ultra largely due to the lack of ambient occlusion. We sometimes include relevant affiliate links in articles from which we earn a small commission. Even the last-gen top dog TITAN Xp fails to hit 60 FPS. Borderlands 3 has been “developed from the ground up” for AMD’s latest silicon, and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford even made a cameo during AMD’s Next Horizon Gaming event over at E3 this year to tout the enhancements the two companies are introducing. Maximum details, meanwhile, require a GeForce GTX 1070, a GTX 1660 Ti, or something faster. All of our testing was done with the Ultra detail preset, which is the second from the top. Moving up the chart, we see the Radeon VII and 1080 Ti effectively align on performance, while the top-end of the performance ladder belongs entirely to NVIDIA. All of these GPUs would fare well by using the High preset, it goes without saying. We found lowering draw distance to ‘low’ netted us a 17% performance gain. From the get-go, we can see that minimums leave a bit to be desired in this game. Gearbox’s much-anticipated Borderlands 3 launched last Friday, and without wasting much time, we jumped in and took full advantage of… its built-in benchmark. Won't settle for less than 4K or 144Hz in Borderlands 3? While performance is good (for AMD), the fact that the game takes extra minutes to start-up is nonsense (most likely a bug due to shaders not being cached). Borderlands 3 with GTX 1660 Ti and AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Performance Overview Being a sponsored title by AMD, the Radeon folks have worked to ensure that DirectX 12 performance would be great out-of-the-gate, and as we’ll see, it did manage to do that. That should mean we see a patch, or some solution, for the number of players running into DX12 errors relatively soon – or at least one would hope. Neither quite touch on 144Hz even at 1080p medium but both manage 130Hz – good enough for a smooth FPS experience. Some people have said its just the latest patch would like to clear that up thank you if … So, more than any other graphs in this article, these ones are definitely “best-case” scenario, actual results can be significantly worse. We normally don’t include every single GPU at every resolution tested, since it’s largely pointless to test a card like the GTX 1660 at 4K, but, since BL3 made benchmarking easy (overall), we decided to just run the entire gamut and see how things fared overall. He is currently on an unremitting quest to create the world’s ugliest gaming PC and is often found tinkering on the testbench in a vain attempt to resurrect another failed RGB experiment gone awry. You’ll need to consider major investment in an Nvidia RTX 2080, RTX 2080 Super, or RTX 2080 Ti to hit 144Hz or more in Borderlands 3. Representing the green team’s lineup, old and new, we have the GTX 1060, GTX 1660 Ti, and RTX 2070 Super. That said, despite the extra long load times, AMD gamers should stick to DirectX 12 for the best overall performance. But there may be a saving grace for the RX 5700 XT yet. We think the majority of people would favor 60 FPS High over 45 FPS Ultra. With a little less horsepower on offer, the GTX 1060, RX 590, and RX 570 suffer a similar fate. The same would be true for the higher-end GPUs, but if you are hitting nearly 60 FPS minimum, you’re probably okay at the chosen detail levels. Hardware Editor. As for CPU performance, we’ve opted for the Intel Core i7 8700K to represent Chipzilla’s silicon, and the Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 5 3600 waving the AMD flag. In any case, pick the right DirectX mode for your GPU, and just leave the rest up to the game devs and driver team. It’s important to note that FidelityFX sharpening is different to Radeon Image Sharpening. The High profile will net you at least 5 FPS more, and probably closer to 10 FPS. If you’re hoping for 60fps or greater with ultra settings enabled in Borderlands 3 you’ll need to invest in a graphics card above and beyond the GTX 1660 Ti. Check out the latest Black Friday PC hardware deals! Or rather: it should. Because Borderlands 3 has a built-in benchmark, we took the easy route and used it (since it’s actually worthwhile). It could be that AMD and / or NVIDIA will drop new drivers anytime now, that makes all of this performance information irrelevant. These chips give us an idea as to whether Borderlands makes the most out of multicore chips, or cares more for unfettered clock speed like the rest of them.
